"I do a lot of paintings of remote areas which are only accessible from the water."
. . Artist Statement . .
I paint almost anything, but my favourites are seascapes and sailboat races, as I have a sailboat in Chester, Nova Scotia, and photograph a lot of sailing races. I am also a long-time member of Chester Yacht Club. A few years ago the yacht club used one of my paintings for their Chester Race Week poster, which gave me a lot of free publicity. I also do a lot of paintings of remote areas which are only accessible from the water. I started doing portraits a few years ago, when I
was inspired by some “pirates” in Lunenburg, some examples of which are on my website.
. . Biography . .
"I have been a pastel artist for 60 years, and I am a signature member of Pastelarts.ca, VANS
(Visual Arts Nova Scotia), and CARFAC (Canadian Artists'; Representation / Le Front des artistes canadiens). My mentor was David Whitzman, a well-known Nova Scotian pastel artist, who only passed
away in 2013 at the age of 98. Also at present, I run a new art gallery located at the offices of the CIOE 97.5 FM radio station in Lower Sackville, NS, which is named Gallery 97. We show 40 paintings at a time over a two month rotation, and introduce up-and-coming artists of all ages."
